Summer finished a month ago, yet lately I've been wanting to dress in bright coloured crochet... Maybe it's not just for summer after all.

OS Accessories Ribcage Harness, Forever New Skye Strapless Silk Dress, Romwe Fruit Brown Skirt, Jeffrey Campbell The Pointe Shoe, Topshop Flower Print Leather Look T-Shirt, Topshop **Flower Sleeve Dress by Sister Jane.

Calling this Renaissance fashion is a stretch, but it's definitely inspired a lot by the artistic movement.
Also, I think it's pretty well established now that I like Flintstones-esque bone accessories.

interview: annie kreighbaum

on Thursday, March 14, 2013

Annie Kreighbaum is an artist, freelance writer and now the Senior Beauty Editor at Jane Pratt's new beauty website xoVain (!!).
According to her xoJane profile, Annie is from Texas, enjoys helping elderly beauties pick out clothing at thrift stores, is a vintage clothing hoarder and smells like salty body odor veiled thinly with notes of Tide detergent.

Unlike a lot of beauty editors, Annie's articles don't read like dull promotion tools. Annie has a knack for using self-depreciating, sarcastic and satirical humour that won't just make you snicker, but cackle and snort until every person in hearing proximity has left the room (ahem mayormaynothavehappened).
Annie provides beauty tips and ideas that are actually ORIGINAL and confusingly exciting to read about (how can you not want outline nails or sexy pigtails or to look like a super-glamorous disco hooker!!!???)
She was kind enough to answer a few questions especially for The Lovelorn.

outline nails

1. Describe the beauty look you aim for in two words.
Unibrow glam.

2. What's one of the most underrated beauty essentials?
Lip liner. Nobody ever raves about it, until I read an interview with one of my beauty idols, Josephine de la Baume, about how she loves lipliner and also making out. I, too, love those things. So basically we're the same person.

3. You can only put makeup on your eyes or lips. Which do you chose?
Lips. I would have said eyes five years ago, but now I'd rather wear no makeup at all except for a stain on my lips and some moisturizer on my eyes and cheekbones. I have deep-set eyes, so there is a natural shadow.

4. What is an item of clothing you probably wear too much?
This is hard... I used to run a vintage shop online (which I had to close when I started working for xoVain), so I have way too many clothes. I think everybody would agree that I probably don't wear bras enough--does that work? I'll never get used to working in an office.

5. You can choose one celebrity to follow you on twitter, who do you pick?
I'm sorry but I hate Twitter... too many features, it's very confusing. I had to make one for work. I'm trying to learn, but it's not very much fun for me unless somebody posts a photo. I'm a visual person! My preferred mode of social media is Instagram and of course I follow Josephine de la Baume.

Sam Lee is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met. If I had a nicest people Jessica has ever met list, he'd definitely be in the top ten... Maybe even top five.
He also has the most flawless skin of all the people I've ever seen.
Did I mention he's an incredible photographer too? Not only does he take amazing photographs, but they're also fashion-forward and have a very natural/human quality about them.
Check out Sam's Facebook page.

First week of law and business school and I have realised the following:
  • Law is hard.
  • Business is substantially less hard (but still hard).
  • I don't know how to use a semicolon.
  • I have close to twenty hours of lectures a week.
  • I also have about ten of tutorials.
  • I also have online courses.
  • And online tests.
  • And studying on top of that.
However, I also realised something very important: I love my brain and I want a career where I can use it. I enjoy fashion, but it doesn't give me any real mental stimulation. Challenging myself to understand complex new ideas, concepts and questions is what really excites me.
